Newly wedded couple shares love story, groom battling terminal cancer

A Tri-state couple, Todd and Kayla Satterfield, has faced enormous challenges on the way to the altar; and that's what made their public wedding so special.
On Wednesday afternoon, the two exchanged vows in front of Henderson Methodist Hospital, where Todd is in hospice care while battling cancer.
The bride and groom say it was their dream wedding; an evening of memories in front of friends and family they'll cherish forever even though they came a little sooner than expected.
"I've told her from the get-go, I will marry you wherever, whenever you want," says Todd.
They'd been planning to get married in October, but: "Sunday, my mom pulled me into the break room over here and she was like, we're having a wedding," says Kayla. "I was like, 'When? Wednesday? Oh, okay.'"
"She walked out and literally I could really only see her and her smile and that's all it took for me," says Todd. "After I saw those two things, I was okay with anything."
The two met years ago, and reconnected in February 2012, a few months after Todd was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
"She's been there to help me when I've cried, she's been there to help me when I've laughed, and it's a pretty good feeling when you know that you have someone that stands besides you that's rock solid," says Todd. "I know no matter what, she's going to be there for me."
"We were just able to hit it off," says Kayla. "I was kind of nervous about the sickness, but that didn't last long."
In fact, it's his new bride's upbeat attitude and strength that, Todd says, has helped him deal with his cancer, and helped him realize the importance of every single day.
"What we often forget is that we should live each moment for each second and not so much for six years down the road because we're not promised anything," says Todd.
Todd's cancer has spread and, right now, there's not treatment at least as far as medicine is concerned, but Todd and Kayla believe in God and believe a miracle can still happen.
"If not, I've lived an amazing life," says Todd. "I've fallen in love with an amazing woman, I've got an amazing son, and I've met so many amazing people throughout this journey that I really have a hard time having any sorts of backlash towards cancer."
Cancer may make their new life as husband and wife together more complicated, but Mr. and Mrs. Satterfield say they'll remember their wedding for a lifetime, however long that lifetime may be.
Todd puts it this way: "No matter if I pass, and at some point in time, I will pass, that I will be with her forever and ever and always and that was something that I wanted her to know and that you know I may not be able to see her physically or me physically every day, but I will be beside her and love her forever."
