A teenager fell out of a window in Independence, MO, and impaled herself on a bench early Wednesday morning.
Police are trying to figure out exactly how the teen came to be impaled on a wrought-iron bench below the apartment she fell from. The balcony above the bench has about a four-and-a-half to five-foot railing around it with wood boards on it.
Police said about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in Tomasha Village near 44th Street and Noland Road, a 15-year-old somehow went over the balcony and landed on the edge of the bench, the bars impaling her through the stomach.
The girl was taken to the hospital where police said her injuries are not considered critical.
Police are investigating and served a search warrant to the apartment in the afternoon.
