KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Dozens of drivers stopped at a checkpoint Monday night failed to show a valid license or were driving with suspended or revoked licenses.

Officers said they stopped 789 vehicles during the five-hour driver's license checkpoint near East 33rd Street and Troost Avenue.

According to the results released by police:

• 27 people were driving on a suspended or revoked license.

• 29 people failed to show a driver's license.

• 22 people failed to show a valid driver's license.

• 1 person was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

• 14 people failed to have proof of insurance.

• 9 citations were issued for other traffic violations.

• 1 hazardous moving violation was issued.

• 2 people were arrested on state warrants.

• 50 people were arrested on Kansas City warrants.

Police said the checkpoints are very important because they say the majority of hit-and-run accidents and drivers that try to flee police have suspended or revoked licenses.

Authorities said everyone cited for a suspended license at the checkpoint had their car towed, issued a fine and will have to prove the proper paper work before they get their car back.
