Two arrested following police chase, crash along Ward Parkway

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities have two people in custody following a police chase and three-vehicle crash that happened late Monday morning.

The chase ended about 11:35 a.m. when a man and a woman in a red pickup ran a stop sign at 70th Terrace and slammed into a white minivan and a Kansas City Public Works truck on Ward Parkway.

Only one person was injured in the crash. That victim came from the minivan, and they were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the pursuit was still ongoing or had just been called off prior to the accident.

Officers were chasing the red pickup because just about five minutes earlier, they received a call of a man armed with a gun in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store located at 89th Street and Wornall Road.

When police arrived they spotted the speeding red pickup and gave chase. It was only after the chase and crash that police found out the 7-Eleven store had not been robbed.

Police said an armed robbery is a crime where they feel a pursuit is warranted.

After the crash, the woman was immediately taken into custody. The man ran from the scene, but was taken into custody a few minutes later.

A police K-9 dog unit was called to the scene to help in his search.
