PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A motorcycle rider was killed Monday morning after being hit by a pickup truck on the Superstition Freeway in Tempe, closing the freeway for nearly three hours.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said the wreck happened around 9 a.m. on U.S. Highway 60 near the Loop 101 Price Freeway interchange.

The highway was closed until just before noon.

Graves said witnesses reported the motorcycle rider was trying to transition to the northbound Loop 101 from the U.S. 60 when a pickup truck broadsided the rider.

No other information was immediately available.
