Valley woman Evelyn Hawkins celebrated turning 100 this month. She celebrated Sunday with family and fellow church members at Apache Wells Community Church.

Hawkins was surrounded by friends and family as they enjoyed root-beer floats and cake. She recalled favorite memories, including her church involvement from back before there was a building.

Originally from Illinois, Evelyn enjoys living in the valley and her community. She offers some advice about life: "Be happy and be healthy."

In the past, Evelyn has enjoyed golfing, all the way through her late 90s. Nowadays, she enjoys dancing, bridge, exercising, and time at the pool.

Evelyn says she only feels like she is 50. "I'm just real happy and real healthy."
