4-year-old girl found wandering on street in Hamden

Posted: Updated:

A barefoot 4-year-old girl was found wandering alone on a busy street while her 9-year-old brother was sleeping at their home in Hamden Friday morning.

The child was located near the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Sanford Street around 6:30 p.m. and a neighbor called police.

The girl told officers that she was trying to get to her mother's home on Mix Avenue, which was a little less than a mile from her house on Westminister Street.

When officers arrived at the home on Westminister Street, they found the brother sleeping on the couch and the girl's father, who was identified as 39-year-old Christopher Brocar.

Brocar, who was working in the Greenwich area, was advised to turn himself in. He was arrested and charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Brocar is being held on a $5,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on July 31.
