Former Columbia police chief dies at 67

A former police chief in Columbia died on Wednesday.

James Boyd passed away at the age of 67, according to the Columbia Daily Herald.

Boyd served as the city's police chief from 1988 until he retired in 2001.

Officers remember him as someone who took pride in serving his hometown and made an effort to know every officer. They said he was a true leader.

Visitation will be held Thursday at Oakes and Nichols from 3-8 p.m.

Boyd will be laid to rest on Friday at 3 p.m.
