PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A flash flood warning is in effect until 6:30 p.m. for south central Yavapai County, including an area scarred by the Yarnell Hill Fire.

A rain gauge located in the center of the scar has recorded 0.6" of rain in about 15 minutes.

Some locations on the eastern side of the fire scar may have received up to 1 1/2 inches of rain.

The warning covers such locations as Peeples Valley and Yarnell.

Additional rainfall amounts of half an inch to 1 1/2 inches are possible in the area covered by the warning.

The heavy rain will likely trigger life-threatening flash floods, as well as mudslides, rockslides and debris flows within and downstream of the burn area.

Homes near washes and creeks in the area may be affected by high water, rock material and debris. Roadways will likely be inundated or washed out.

The storms have been sliding down off the Mogollon Rim and moving south into the Valley.

"Not everyone will get rain, but in typical monsoon storm fashion, the few areas that do get rain may see a brief downpour along with gusty wind and dangerous lightning," said CBS 5 chief meteorologist Chris Dunn.

There's an elevated chance for mainly afternoon storms across Arizona through the end of the week.

"As that feed of moist air moves farther west, our Colorado River communities will also start to get in on this storm action," Dunn said.
