A Hartford man, who was once on the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry, was arrested Thursday after police said he approached children at a little league game and started to touch himself.
Police said the coach of a little league team called them after he said a man, later identified as Scott Weiner, 50, was approaching older players with his two dogs and was touching himself inappropriately.
"According to the coach and the players, the suspect was walking around the park, touching himself in a very sexually explicit and offensive manner," said Hartford police Lt. Brian Foley.
One of the coaches was smart enough to corral the players in the outfield and call 911, Foley said.
Weiner was charged with risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. He was released on $50,000 bond and was given a court date of July 17.
Weiner was taken off the state's registry 10 years after he was charged with risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace.
Even though he was no longer on the state's registry, he was still on the radar of Hartford police detectives.
"We were hoping he'd slip up and make a mistake like this," Foley said.
Police sources told Eyewitness News Weiner is hard to catch because he's smart about the law, often approaching boys in the 16-year-old range, which is the age of consent.
Police sources said Weiner, who lives just a few blocks from the park, often brought two dogs with him to lure the boys.
