Father, son, girlfriend brought 4-yr-old to meth deal, officials say

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV ) -

A father, his son, and his girlfriend were all arrested in an undercover meth deal that, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, they brought a 4-year-old child to.

Deputies say the investigation began a couple weeks prior to the arrests when ICE Agents learned that Dustin Thomas Miller, 25, was distributing meth, and offered to sell to an undercover agent.

Through coordination with a cooperating witness, an arrangement was made for Dustin to meet in Granite Falls and deliver a quantity of meth. As ICE and Granite Falls Police Department Officers waited, they found through electronic surveillance that Dustin's source would be with him. The Agents did not know that it would be his father, Lee Marcus Miller, 43, the report states.

Eventually, Dustin showed up at the meeting place with his father and his father's girlfriend, Tashia May Reynolds, 26, who was driving the car. After changing locations to McDonalds in Granite Falls and once Agents confirmed the drug exchange was about to happen, they rushed in and took them into custody without incident.

Lee Miller was found to have approximately a half ounce of methamphetamine and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol in his possession. Another .380 caliber pistol was also found in the vehicle along with other items of drug paraphernalia.

Reynolds' 4-year-old child was also in the car during the drug deal. The child was removed from the scene by a close relative, deputies said.

ICE Agents say child abuse charges are most likely to be brought against Reynolds in the near future.

Lee Miller, a convicted felon, also has pending drug charges stemming from an arrest for possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine by Granite Falls Police in June. He may also have other drug charges coming from the Burke County Drug Task Force from an investigation they conducted.

Dustin Miller is currently on probation and is a convicted felon as well, deputies told WBTV.

"It's bad enough to deal drugs, but to involve your family and a four year old child in a drug deal with guns is the lowest," Sheriff Alan C. Jones said of the arrest.

Lee Marcus Miller was charged with felonious conspiracy to sell methamphetamine, felonious conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, felonious possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine, felonious maintain a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance, and two counts felonious possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

He also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in Burke County Court for felony obtaining property by false pretense which was also served. He was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Center and placed under a $100,000 secured bond on the drug charges.

Dustin Miller was charged with felonious conspiracy to sell methamphetamine, felonious conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, and felonious maintain a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance.

He was placed under a $50,000 secured bond on the drug charges.

Tashia Reynolds was charged with felonious conspiracy to sell methamphetamine, felonious conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, and felonious maintain a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance.

She also had an outstanding warrant for arrest for simple assault from Catawba County and was served with that charge as well. She was placed under a $50,000 secured bond on the drug charges.

All three are scheduled to be in District Court in Lenoir on July 11.
