KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One person is in critical condition after an overnight robbery, which led police on a high-speed chase down the highway.

A large portion of U.S. Highway 71 near Brush Creek was shut down early Tuesday morning after three shooting suspects, running from police, crashed their car.

The car crashed going northbound on Hwy. 71 near the Swope Parkway exit ramp.

The two passengers were ejected from the vehicle and were both taken to Children's Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to Research Medical Center. He is in critical condition.

Northbound Hwy. 71 had all lanes shut down until about 3:30 a.m.

The chase began after a shooting about 12:45 a.m. near Thompson and Elmwood avenues. Police said the three suspects in the car attempted to rob two people who were walking.

One of the two victims was shot and is now in critical condition.

It is unknown at this time if the vehicle the suspects were driving was stolen.
