Bullet pierces Independence home on Fourth of July night

Posted: Updated:

A Fourth of July evening turned chaotic for an Independence couple, when a bullet from a high-powered rifle pierced their home.

The bullet was fired through the kitchen about 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The bullet traveled through at least two walls.

Police believe someone fired bullets from a wooded area near the home in the 12800 block of E. 48th St., which is near U.S. 40.

The man had been in the kitchen shortly before the bullet hit the home. The couple was in their bedroom watching TV, when they heard the noise and discovered bullet holes.

Independence police are investigating.
