Thousands without power early Friday after driver crashes into power pole

Posted: Updated:

Power was knocked out to about 2,500 Kansas City Power and Light Co. customers early Friday morning after a car ended up crashing into a power pole.

Lenexa police Officer Dan Friesen said a 17-year-old was driving about 1:52 a.m. when she hit a sign, then a power pole and finally ended up running into a concrete wall.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

Police said they believe alcohol was involved in the wreck and the driver received several traffic citations.

Power was restored to all customers a short time later.
