A husband whose wife was gunned down in front of him is searching for answers to find her killer. Misty Kidd's murder remains unsolved nearly three years after someone shot her during a home invasion.
Misty Kidd's husband wants to know whoever killed his wife is off the streets, which is why he is asking anyone with information to come forward and solve the crime that killed a young mother.
Three-year-old Mackenzie Kidd is full of questions and far from shy. On the day KCTV5's Emily Rittman visited, she was fascinated by her microphone.
Her mother, 28-year-old Misty Kidd, only got to spend about one short month with Mackenzie when a gunman took the mother's life shortly after she gave birth.
"She knows her mom is in heaven," Dallas Kidd said.
Dallas Kidd keeps his wife's memory alive.
"I always tell her the story about how we met at bedtime. Just pictures. How kind she was. We always tell her how she was kind to everyone she met," he said.
The couple went to see a concert together the night she was killed on July 17, 2010. They stopped at a friend's house in the 3600 block of Freeman Avenue to show off pictures of their newborn baby girl.
"We were there for about 20 minutes or less and a knock came at the door," Dallas Kidd said.
Dallas Kidd said he had no clue they were in any danger.
"Just a few seconds in to him answering the door he yelled, 'gun!'" he said. "My wife ran towards me. We were both running toward the backroom and we heard the gunshots go off."
The men who knocked at the door started firing into the home. The person that pulled the trigger remains free and Dallas Kidd has since been pleading for answers.
"If you are scared of the guy, it's been three years, he isn't going to know, it's you know, just come forward and tell what you know," he said.
Dallas Kidd said he's grown past the point of wanting vengeance. He wants the killer caught to protect other innocent victims.
As he waits for justice, he holds onto memories.
"I see a lot of Misty in her (motions to Mackenzie) which is one blessing," he said.
Family and friends are holding a vigil on July 17 at sunset at the Hill Park in Independence, MO.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Kansas City, KS, Police Department or Crimestoppers at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
