CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB/WSMV) -

A 9-year-old girl died and four other family members were injured in a crash early today on I-24.

The family of five was traveling east on I-24 when the Nissan Xterra they were in apparently hydroplaned, flipped and struck the center barrier, according to Chattanooga police.

The 9-year-old girl was ejected from the car. She was taken to a Chattanooga hospital where she later died.

"What we know is the car lost control, was fishtailing, struck the wall and that's why it overturned," Chattanooga Police Public Information Officer Nathan Hartwig told WRCB-TV.

The other four occupants of the car are listed in stable condition.

The wreck occurred around 4:20 a.m. according to the police. I-24 at the U.S. 27 junction was closed for about five hours after the wreck.
