CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

15-year old Mandy Spangler is living her dream.

A once in a lifetime experience to set sail on the oldest fully rigged sail ship in the world.  The 210-foot Sorlandet from Norway pulled into port Wednesday for the "Tall Ships Festival."

"I've always loved sailing and my uncle had a sailboat and he's taught me to sail, and I've always dreamed of going out on one of these big ships," says Mandy.

Spangler is one of more than forty kids chosen from Cleveland to take part in "Project YESS" -- Youth Empowered Success through Sailing.

"I think I'm going to be learning about all these different nautical terms, like tying knots. How to actually sail," says Spangler.

More than eight ships from around the world are on display. Elaine Hassel came out with her senior citizens group to get a glimpse.

"It's just fabulous seeing the freedom of the ships coming in to port," explains Elaine.

Spangler says getting the chance to board a beauty like the Sorlandet is something she'll remember for the rest of her life.

"I hope to be able to do something like this when I'm older again, and I hope to learn different leadership skills," says Spangler.
