AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

An Akron man is behind bars for a fireworks explosion.

65-year old Wayne Jones was arrested and charged with manufacturing explosives, unlawful possession of dangerous ordinance, illegal assembly of chemicals and possession of criminal tools.

Detectives say they found scales, fuses, funnels, nitrates and powder inside his home on Grand Avenue.

"Boom, it was loud, it was real loud," says neighbor Darnell Bowers.

Darnell Bowers lives five doors down from the home where it happened Monday night. The blast blew out windows and shattered glass could be seen along the street and driveways.

"I seen a guy laying in between the driveway and kind of underneath the truck. He was just saying help me," says Bowers.

Detectives say Jones sold the explosives to 34 year old Akron resident Kevin Skubic. Cops say the fireworks he was carrying to his truck is equivalent to a quarter stick of dynamite. They somehow they went off.

Skubic lost an arm in the blast. Late Tuesday evening he was in critical condition in the burn unit at Akron Children's Hospital.

"He was pretty messed up. He had deep scars. I mean he had flesh that was pretty much open. Half of his face was covered in blood. He was really bad," says Bowers.

Neighbors describe Jones as a good guy. He faces several charges including manufacturing explosives. More charges could follow.

He'll be in court Wednesday.
