A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in a hit-and-run case from last month, Overland Park police said Tuesday.

According to a booking log, the Overland Park woman was taken into custody Monday evening.

An observant police officer doing traffic patrol saw a white SUV with front-end damage that matched the description of last month's hit-and-run crash. The officer pulled over the driver.

Skylar Breann Smith was not in the vehicle, but police were able to connect the SUV to the crash and Smith. Smith was charged with failing to report an accident and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

An Overland Park teenager attempting to cross the street about 11 p.m. June 10 near 123rd Street and Nall Avenue was hit.

Witnesses told police that Forrest Wilms, 18, attempted to run across Nall Avenue in oncoming traffic.  That was when he was struck by a white SUV.

Authorities said the SUV did not stop and it continued heading north on Nall Avenue. Witnesses were unable to give additional information on the vehicle or driver.

The teen was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Overland Park police Officer Gary Mason said Wilms' family was relieved to learn about the arrest.

"They are happy to get closure to this, and he's out of the hospital and doing well," Mason said.
