KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Fifteen residents were evacuated after a nearby apartment building collapsed.

This was done as a precaution and those residents are expected to be allowed to return to their homes at the 18th Street Plaza Apartments.

But the collapsed building will have to be demolished.

This occurred just before midnight Monday at 1213 N. 18th St., which is near Washington Avenue.

A news release from the KCK Fire Department said they found three buildings, each of which had three stories, being renovated. A fourth building was occupied.

With the walls and roof of the nearby building collapsing, 15 residents were forced from their home. The Kansas City area chapter of the American Red Cross assisted.

No one was injured, authorities said.
