FAUCETT, MO (KCTV) -

Southbound Interstate 29 near Faucett, MO, in Platte County reopened about 6 p.m. following a fiery crash between two semitrucks.

The wreck happened about 2:30 p.m. and caused a rather large backup on the interstate just past mile marker 28. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and traffic was diverted to Missouri Highway 371 and down to Platte City, MO, where motorists could rejoin the interstate.

Officials said a semitruck hauling flour was rear-ended by another semitruck that was hauling cars.

Witnesses said at least one of the semis burst into flames when the two collided. It took about three-and-a-half hours before authorities could start letting traffic back through.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the wreck was caused by a distracted driver.

"We need to pay attention when we're driving and this is just a great example of why we need to pay attention. One person didn't pay attention and we've closed down the highway for several hours," Sgt. Sheldon Lyon said.

Faucett is located 14 miles south of St. Joseph, MO.

While at least one person was seen being put on a stretcher, officials said no one was seriously injured.
