KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A puppy who survived after being locked inside a tow lot car for a month now has a new home.

The foster family who has been taking care of the little puppy named Kia since her rescue decided to keep her, said Tori Fugate with the KC Pet Project.

Kia survived inside an impounded Buick at a Kansas City tow lot by foraging on leftovers in fast-food bags and, apparently, cigars. She had crawled onto the dashboard of the vehicle and was spotted by a worker. The 14-week-old puppy weighed just three pounds and was extremely dehydrated when she was rescued.

Since her rescue, Kia has gotten national attention, even appearing on the Rachael Ray show with guest co-host Regis Philbin and Fugate.

The KC Pet Project said the puppy was thriving with her foster-family-turned-forever-home. She's been gaining weight, learning commands and potty training.
