Child pulled from Raytown pool dies at hospital

Posted: Updated:

A child who was rushed to the hospital after she was found not breathing in her family's pool has died, police said.

Raytown police said they were called to a home at 79th Street and Ditzler Avenue at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday on a child found in a pool.

When officers and emergency medical services arrived, they found the 2-year-old child not breathing. Officials began CPR, and the child was taken to the hospital.

The child was pronounced dead later that evening at the hospital, police said Wednesday morning.

Neighbors said they saw emergency responders carry off the child. They said it appeared to be an elementary-aged girl and that she was not moving, limp in the arms of the rescuer.

It's not clear if the girl is one of the resident's daughters or not. Neighbors said the homeowner has several little ones, a 9-year-old and several teenaged kids.

Police said the event is under investigation but appears to be an accident.
