SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

Two Shawnee, KS, women are accused of crimes against children.

The crimes allegedly happened at the Cottonwood Park Apartment near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm Road.

The news of the crimes came as a surprise to neighbors, because many didn't even know kids lived at the home.

"I seen three detectives and a uniform cop knock on the door and they had the place surrounded. They escorted both women out in handcuffs," said a neighbor who wished not to give her name.

A nearly two-month investigation came to a head Monday when two women were arrested at the apartment they share in Shawnee, KS. Dalina Redd and Jamie Armijo both face seven charges, including three counts of aggravated endangering a child and four counts of battery.

But family members said there's more to the story.

"We don't do stuff like that, how could you say something like that?" said a relative of Redd's who didn't want to give her name.

Tuesday afternoon the female relative stopped by Redd's apartment and said she wouldn't believe any of the charges without evidence, something prosecutors believe they have, otherwise charges wouldn't have been filed against either woman.

"You need to find out what's really going on," the relative said.

The woman did not want to fill KCTV 5 in on what she believes happened, which could have lead to the allegations but, according to court records, the victims are four children ranging in age from 5 to 13 years old.

Neighbors who did not want to be identified said in six months they have only seen the children outside once. Another neighbor said the kids were removed from the home two months ago.

According to police records, they first went to the home in late April, but it's alleged the crimes have been occurring since last summer.

Redd is out of jail on bond. As of late Tuesday afternoon, Armijo remains in custody.
