Water rescue held near Fairfax Bridge after fisherman's gear found

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A water rescue was held in the Missouri River near the Fairfax Bridge Tuesday after officials said they found unattended fisherman's gear.

Officials said the gear was found along the south bank of the Missouri River down from the bridge.

Fire rescue crews were called and they started a search involving at least two boats with search groups in the water.

The search was called off about 5:30 p.m. after crews didn't find anybody in the water.

The bridge handles southbound U.S. Route 69 from Platte County, MO, to Kansas City, KS. Lanes have been reduced on the bridge to make room for service vehicles.
