Woman injured in drive-by shooting in Kansas City

Posted: Updated:

A Kansas City woman is in the hospital after an apparent drive-by shooting.

She was shot on Brooklyn Avenue near Elma Street about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police aren't sure what the motive was but say she may have been shot when she told a stranger she didn't have any money.

"Basically, her story is that she was walking in the area when a light-colored sedan with a white driver pulled over and asked her for money. When she said she didn't have any, he fired one round and hit her in the back," Sgt. Chris Price said.

The woman was transported to an area hospital.  Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

After being shot, the woman was able to get to a grocery store for help.

No arrests have been made.
