KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Two North Kansas City schools and the district offices were placed on a precautionary lockdown Thursday morning because of a bank robbery.

The Community America Credit Union at 5400 NE Antioch Rd. was robbed about 9:15 a.m.

A North Kansas City School District spokeswoman said the doors were locked and extra steps were taken to ensure the day went ahead without disruption. The schools involved were Davidson Elementary and Northgate Middle School.

The lockdown was lifted after about an hour.

The robber is described as a black man wearing long black athletic shorts, a long sleeve white shirt and a two-toned yellow and black ball cap. The FBI said the suspect was carrying a black, small duffle-style bag and displayed a weapon.

The man fled on foot and was last seen heading southwest. The FBI isn't releasing how much cash the man obtained.

It wasn't clear whether the lockdown was lifted because the man was caught or not.
