Chef Emmanuel Langlade of Aixois shares a recipe for Croque Monsieur.
2 Tablespoons of butter
2 slices of white bread
2 slices gruyere, Swiss cheese
1 slice high-quality cooked ham
Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Brush both sides of each bread slice with the butter.
Lay one slice of bread with the ham. Clap the sandwich together, press it firmly and set it on a baking sheet.
Bake, turning once at the midway point, until crisp and brown (about 8 to 10 minutes).
