Hundreds of supporters, anti-abortion leaders and state lawmakers braved the heat outside a Phoenix family planning facility Thursday to push for new legislation that would put more regulations on clinics providing abortions.
The clinic, Family Planning Associates Medical Group, was a part of a recent investigation, led by Live Action and Center for Arizona Policy, both pro-life organizations. Live Action released a video last month as a part of their undercover investigation into the clinic, claiming the clinic had inhumane practices.
Speakers, including Sen. Nancy Barto, urged colleagues to pass legislation that would allow for unannounced inspections at clinics that perform abortions. At this time, these clinics are the only facilities that the state cannot perform any unannounced inspections, according to Live Action. They also called for the clinic's license to be removed.
Cathi Herrod, president of Center for Arizona Policy, urged lawmakers to pass legislation during this session.
