FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

A tornado warning originally issued for parts of the KCTV5 viewing area has been canceled.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill had issued a tornado warning for northeastern Bates County in west central Missouri, northern Henry County in west central Missouri and south central Johnson County in west central Missouri.

About 3:30 p.m. the weather service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located nine miles northeast of Butler, MO, and moving northeast at 35 miles per hour. Radar indicated rotation.

The warning was canceled minutes later.

The severe thunderstorm warning for Henry County and southeastern Johnson County, both in west central Missouri as well as Linn County in east central Kansas has ended.

A flash flood warning was also issued for northeastern Bates County, MO, northern Henry County, MO, southeastern Johnson County, MO, and southern Pettis County, MO. It is in effect until 10:30 p.m. A flash flood warning for southern Linn County, KS, and western Bates County, MO, is in effect until 11:30 p.m.

Unstable conditions means a hazardous weather outlook remains in effect through the night. Thunderstorms are expected to redevelop in portions of east central Kansas and western central through central Missouri. The storms would likely become severe with large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes possible through the late afternoon and early evening hours.

The area of greatest risk will generally be along and south of Paola, KS, through Boonville, MO.
