1 person dies after tree falls in Colchester

COLCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A mother died after a tree fell on her and her adult children while having a picnic at a state park in Colchester on Monday afternoon.

A tree branch snapped at Salmon River State Forest off of River Road in East Hampton just before 2:30 p.m., Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection officials said.

The mother suffered fatal injuries during the incident. The woman's daughter suffered a leg injury and was taken by Life Star to Hartford hospital.

The son was also injured.

The conditions of the other victims were not released. 

The names of the victims have not released at this time.

State police said the incident is not criminal in nature. DEEP could not say if the branch snapped to rain or the weather.

Salmon River State Forest is a very popular spot for people to hang out and fish
