The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a motorcycle crash that killed a 38-year-old Shawnee man.
Jason M. Gearhart wasn't wearing a helmet, troopers said. He died at the scene of the crash after he lost control and his motorcycle hit some boulders along an Interstate 35 off ramp.
Gearhart was traveling on I-35 north when he took the ramp to 75th Street. About 200 feet south of the US 69 overpass he lost control. The 2007 Harley Davidson bounced into the ditch and struck the rocks, the troopers said.
A friend was traveling with Gearhart and saw the crash, which occurred at 1:25 a.m. Monday.
The ramp was closed for about six hours during the investigation.
