A Tempe officer shot a suspect in the hand after the suspect threw a wine bottle at the officer's head early Monday morning.
A street cleaner called 911 about 4 a.m. to report a man acting strangely and throwing things.
When officers arrived they found the suspect destroying the patio at the House of Tricks restaurant in Tempe at the corner of Forest Avenue and University Drive.
Police believe the man was either intoxicated or on some type of drug.
A K9 officer was injured during the altercation after he walked on broken glass, according to Tempe police. The K9 is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say the officer wasn't injured and the suspect was taken to a Tempe hospital for treatment. During the ambulance ride the suspect attacked a Tempe firefighter who was treating him, according to Tempe police. The suspect also attacked a nurse once he arrived at the hospital.
The name of the suspect hasn't been released.
