Two dead after helicopter crash near Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MO (KCTV) -

Two people are dead after a helicopter crash north of Springfield, MO.

The chopper went down late Friday night in Hickory County. It was owned by Lucas Oil, which operates a speedway in the county.

Preliminary reports indicate the helicopter took off near Cross Timbers, MO, about 5:45 p.m. A pilot and a passenger were on board at the time. Both of them were killed.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what went wrong.

Officials won't release the identities of the victims until families have been notified.
