Drivers to hit the road this holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:

It's expected to be a busy few days on the roads, with more Americans expected to travel by car this holiday weekend, but AAA estimates overall air travel will be down.

Lower gas prices and a better economy might not be enough to get people away, and another factor in New England, unfortunately, could be the rainy forecast.

The beaches are ready for the unofficial start to summer despite getting torn apart by Superstorm Sandy.

Places like Misquamicut won't look the same because some buildings needed to be torn down after the storm, but crews have been hard at work to get the beaches themselves ready to go.

Some people, though, said it will be hard to go to the beach because of the weather.

"This holiday weekend I'm not planning on doing much," Will Tyson said. "I'm just going to stay inside because the weather isn't pretty."

Gas prices in Connecticut are down $.07 from last year, and the state average is $3.79 a gallon.

AAA said they expect around 31 million drivers will travel by car, a slight increase from last year.
