National Weather Service confirms tornado touchdown near Knob Noster

PETTIS COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Knob Noster on Monday afternoon.

The EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 95 mph. A team from Pleasant Hill reviewed the damage and determined it was indeed a tornado that touched down east of Knob Noster, which is home to Whiteman Air Force Base.

The tornado lasted for nearly 15 miles in Johnson and Pettis counties. It developed two miles east of Knob Noster and dissipated about two miles north of Hughesville, the National Weather Service said.

Parts of Pettis and Johnson Counties in Missouri were under a tornado warning Monday afternoon. Some structural damage was reported.
