Police search along interstate for clues in 2010 Shawnee liquor store murder

Posted: Updated:

Shawnee police searched along westbound Interstate 70 in Kansas City, KS, Tuesday afternoon, looking for a gun used in a murder that occurred three years ago.

Capt. Bill Hisle with the Shawnee Police Department said detectives received information recently that a gun used in the murder of Gerry Grovenburg at his business, Mr. G.'s Liquor, in 2010 might have been dumped along the highway.

Hisle said police initially believed the gun was thrown away to the west of the Turner Diagonal, but recently they got new information that it may have been dumped on the east side. This led to their search at the 57th Street exit in the westbound lanes, or north side of I-70.

Hisle was not overly optimistic about finding the gun, but said hardly a week goes by that detectives aren't following up on clues in the high-profile case.

No arrests have been made.
