Tea Party protests IRS in Cincinnati

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The Cincinnati Tea Party protested the IRS on Tuesday over the targeting of liberty groups regarding their tax status.

The protest began at Fountain Square and moved to the IRS building.

Tea Party supporters from all over the country, including Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky were in attendance.

"Stop all of the corruption and all the cover ups, it's got to stop somewhere," said James Mitchell.

"I'm out here today because someone needs to defang, declaw, and disarm the IRS for what they have been doing," said Okie Sbauling.

Liberty groups all over the country have rejected the apology by the IRS for targeting tax-exempt groups for further review during the 2012 election cycle and demanded the immediate resignations of all of those involved in the deliberate harassment of Tea Party and Liberty groups. Lois Lerner, who oversees tax-exempt groups at the IRS, blamed the targeting of organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their tax-exempt applications on "low-level workers in Cincinnati."

"The IRS has demonstrated the most disturbing, illegal and outrageous abuse of government power," said Ann Becker, President of the Cincinnati Tea Party. "This deliberate targeting and harassment of tea party groups reaches a new low in illegal government activity and overreach.

"We demand the immediate resignation of all complicit in this activity and insist Congress investigate."
