14-year-old leads police on chase across county lines

WOODBURN, OR (KPTV) -

A 14-year-old will face several charges after being chased by police in a stolen vehicle early this morning.

A police spokesman says it all started in Marion County at about 3:20 a.m. today, when a hit-and-run crash occurred near the intersection of Front Street and Young Street in Woodburn.

Responding police spotted a black SUV believed to be involved in the hit-and-run. They soon determined it was stolen.

Police wound up chasing the SUV as it sped northbound on Interstate 5.  The SUV then exited the freeway, and the pursuit moved onto Wilson Road in Clackamas County.

The SUV continued on Stafford Road where at some point the tires popped, and the vehicle was being driven on all rims as it slowed down to 20, and then 10 mph.

Police ended up using a maneuver that forced the SUV into a ditch.

Still, the driver still refused to comply with police demands, officers said. Police on the scene broke out the passenger side window and threw a pepper bomb inside.

The driver then exited the SUV and attempted to run away. A police K-9 chased down the suspect and bit him, allowing police to take him into custody.

The 14-year-old was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his dog bite.

He is expected to be charged upon his release.
