Famous photographer gets degree at KCAI more than 50 years after he began

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

It was a long time coming for Kansas City Art Institute graduate Ed Gallucci - almost 50 years, in fact.

Gallucci, a world-class photographer whose subjects have ranged from Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder, to Woody Allen and Kansas City's own Robert Altman, was an Art Institute student in the mid-1960s.

Gallucci left the school to pursue his career in photography and never got his degree. That is, until Saturday afternoon.

Gallucci, who was able to complete his undergraduate degree through a program that allows for real-world experience as partial credit, walked across the stage at Unity Temple on the Country Club Plaza and picked up his diploma.

Gallucci, who appeared on KCTV5 News Saturday morning, said it's been a long ride, but ultimately, a rewarding one.
