Extra security planned for weekend's Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Thousands of runners will take to the streets for Portland's 2nd annual Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon this weekend.

10,000 people are registered to run the 13.1 mile course as they're serenaded by rock bands. But in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, there will be extra security measures along the way.

Runners we spoke to say the tragic events won't stop them from competing.

"It's not going to stop me from running races, and fans will still continue to support races. Having extra security will be the right measure to take," said Cara Fitzpatrick.

The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon starts at 8 a.m. Sunday morning at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland.
