Lockdown lifted at North Haven HS, MS

Posted: Updated:

Officials in North Haven said the lockdowns at both North Haven High School and Middle School have been lifted.

The schools were temporarily locked down as a precaution as police searched for a person wanted in connection with an attempted burglary in the area.

After hearing a loud noise, a resident on Elm Street found a man "prying off the door's locking mechanism," police said.

A man, who would be later identified as 35-year-old Jason Edward Martin of West Haven, ran on Elm Street toward the location of North Haven High School and Middle Schools.

Officials said there were no weapons, but since the search for the suspect was close to the schools, the decision was made to lock the facilities down.

Police quickly located Martin and arrested him.

Once Martin was arrested, the schools were able to lift the lockdown orders.

Martin was charged with second-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary. He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned at Meriden Superior Court at a later date.
