NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -

A couple was pulled from a house fire in Naugatuck Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to a house fire at 44 Carver St. just before 8:30 a.m.

Inside the home, firefighters found an unconscious man and a woman who did not know where she was.

The man, who firefighters said couldn't speak, was taken to Waterbury Hospital, fire officials said. He is expected to recover from his injuries, fire officials added.

After she was out of the home, the woman was treated at the scene after she refused transport to the hospital.

The names of the couple were not released by the Naugatuck Fire Department.

The fire was contained to the one home, but the first and second floor sustained damage, fire officials said.

The extent of the damage is unclear.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
