McGavock HS student, sister arrested on drug charges

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A McGavock High School student and her older sister are accused of selling drugs.

The younger of the two sisters was confronted by police at McGavock High School last week.

Police said they found prescription drugs and marijuana in the teen's backpack.  However, when officers questioned her, they said she told them her older sister was actually to blame.

Inside the backpack, officers found 26 hydrocodone pills, 27 dextroamphatamine pills, 27 alprazolam, one diazepam and two digital scales with marijuana residue located inside the larger bag of marijuana.

Officers arrested the girl's older sister, Alissa Merritt, 20, at her home on four drug charges. They also took Merritt's boyfriend, Michael Fanning, into custody on two drug charges.

During a search of the residence, officers found $2,467 cash and several baggies of marijuana weighing about 16.5 grams.

Police said the McGavock student had several text messages on her phone that involved  Merritt selling narcotics to the student's friends.

The younger sister told police that Merritt would get nervous about having a large amount of drugs at the house, so she'd give them to her to bring to school to avoid getting caught.

Police said there was no prescription on file for Merritt to have the drugs.
