WOODRUFF, SC (FOX Carolina) -

When David Robeson pulled up to his house off Park Street in Woodruff last week, he could tell something was wrong.

"I said somebody didn't just try to break into the house, somebody did break into the house," Robeson said.

Robeson said before he left he locked the front door, but someone pried it open. He said when he went inside the place was ransacked.

"My mom's purse was thrown across the floor, so I called 911," Robeson said.

He said someone dumped drawers and threw his things.

"It was anything he could find - like pills, money," Robeson said.

And when he walked to the back bedroom he said he couldn't believe it - the suspect was still inside his house.

Robeson said he found 29-year-old Luke Mathis passed out on his floor.

"So, I called 911 back," Robeson said.

And when deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office got there, Robeson said he was still passed out.

Investigators said Mathis reeked of alcohol and when they arrested him they said they found a stolen phone and jewelry that didn't belong to him. Deputies charged Mathis with burglary and took him to jail and it's exactly where Robeson said he needs to be.

"He don't just need to be in jail, he needs to be put up underneath the jail," Robeson said.

Robeson said he knows Mathis from around the neighborhood, but said they're not friends. Mathis is at the Spartanburg County jail on a $25,000 bond. He was also charged with petit larceny.
