Car rams into building, breaking gas line - KCTV5

Driver, passenger flee after car careens into KC business

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

It's not everyday people see a car careening through the front of a business, but that is exactly what happened at King's Beauty Supply store.

One worker inside the store, located at 77th Street and Troost Avenue, said it happened so quickly he barely had time to react.

Workers inside spent the afternoon tip-toeing through bricks and glass after a car slammed through the front window about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, breaking a gas line in the process.

Ara Cho was behind the counter.

"Pretty much, I looked up and there was all that stuff flying over my head. My sister was like 'ahhh' screaming," Cho said.

Amazingly, Cho was able to keep a level head, shielding her sister from the debris while calling 911.

"There wasn't much time for panicking I guess," Cho said.

However, the driver and passenger of the car must have felt differently. Cho said although they were injured in the crash, they got out of the car and ran off.

"I tried to tell them 'stay in the car' because when you are in an accident, you don't move. But they didn't listen to me, they ran off," she said.

The owner of the building is counting his blessings that no one inside was seriously hurt.

"We were lucky, especially with the two girls behind the counter. We were really lucky that could've been terrible," Roger Fallek said.

Police say the driver and passenger are still on the run.
