The Dalai Lama's swing through Portland is under way, and he's holding an interfaith discussion about the environment Thursday on the campus of University of Portland.
His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, arrived at the airport Wednesday morning. Local leaders greeted him on the tarmac after his plane touched down.
His discussion at the UP is called "Spirituality and the Environment" and it kicked off with a public address at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. A question-and-answer session was to follow in the afternoon.
The Dalai Lama will then travel to Eugene on Friday to deliver a public lecture at Matthew Knight Arena. Two events are planned Saturday back in Portland at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
All the events are sold out.
Maitripa College in Portland, the only Tibetan Buddhist college in the Pacific Northwest, will host Green Action Day from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The goal is to follow up on the events of the preceding days with speakers, musicians and activities intended to provide people opportunities to learn about environmental issues.
