Armed intruder shot and killed identified as estranged husband

Posted: Updated:

A Warrenton family shot and killed an armed intruder who made his way into their home early Tuesday morning.

Police said the man had illegally entered the home of his estranged wife.

It happened just before 11 a.m. near the 300 block of South Main Avenue in the small coastal town, putting an entire neighborhood into lockdown.

Police say the suspect walked into the upstairs apartment armed with a gun, prompting the family to barricade themselves in a back bedroom and call 911.

For several tense minutes, police say the victims, a 43-year-old woman and three teenagers, stayed on the line with 911 dispatchers while they waited for help to arrive.

"I can pretty much imagine they were really scared. I would be," said neighbor Kindra Goodwin.

As officers surrounded the home and assumed their tactical positions, neighbors say they were told to take cover.

"I was letting my dog out, and I saw police officers with guns, and they told me to hide behind the house," said neighbor Leah Dalton.

But before police could make their way into the home, the intruder busted down the door and that's when police say one of the victims shot the suspect.

After hearing gunfire, police ran inside and tried to revive the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified Wednesday night as Bruce Rogers, 39, of Astoria.

Investigators said his estranged wife lived in the home.

Police would not confirm who in the home shot at the suspect, but they tell FOX 12 that no arrests have been made, pending the remainder of the investigation.
