The victim was 17-year-old Shawnee Mission East student Tyler Rathbun, who was also a star player on the school's soccer team.

Last Nov. 25, Rathbun was riding on an ATV that overturned in a field in rural Miami County. He was flown to a Kansas City hospital for treatment, but later died from his injuries.

Now charged in Rathbun's death are 18-year-old William Sutherland of Overland Park, KS, and 18-year-old Taylor Sheets. Sutherland is charged with aggravated endangering of a child and unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol. Sheets is charged with involuntary manslaughter and DUI.

If convicted, Sutherland's charges carry a sentence ranging from probation to five-to-17 months in the state penitentiary and a $100,000 fine. The hosting charge carries a sentence of up to one year in jail.

For Sheets, who was charged as a juvenile, if she's convicted her sentence is up to a judge. A judge could impose a sentence of 18-to-36 months in a juvenile detention facility.
