Google Fiber will soon be making its way to Shawnee

SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

Ultra-high speed internet is making its way to Shawnee, KS. A city council vote Thursday night was unanimous to bring Google Fiber to Shawnee.

"The ultra-high speed Google fiber network will enhance the quality of life for people in Shawnee by providing faster access to essential digital resources," said Mayor Jeff Meyers. "This will grow and strengthen Shawnee's competitive advantage in the years to come.

While Google Fiber is definitely going to Shawnee, it's unclear how long it will be until residents and businesses can actually start using the blazing internet. They have taken the first step by voting in favor of the service, now they have to start the planning and engineering.

Shawnee is the third fastest growing city in the state of Kansas and the Kansas City area. Now they are trying step up their internet speeds to match their rapid expansion.
